A prototype for updating the “things” in IoT: framework for cybersecurity implementation

The fast-growing Internet of Things (IoT) devices create major cybersecurity problems because standard security measures remain behind this rapidly spreading connected device network. The proposed research introduces a framework to secure and manage IoT device updates inside IoT systems. The system proposal achieves enhanced cybersecurity through its refined infrastructure for monitoring as well as firmware updates and device management. The project targets three security goals which consist of protecting IoT device communication channels and maintaining current firmware and software systems and defending against unauthorized intrusions. A central control system running in the prototype provides active device observation along with continuous device tracking capabilities. The system implements access policies together with automatic response procedures that both reduce security threats and perform crucial vulnerability remediation tasks. Through encryption protocols combined with authentication mechanisms the framework improves the security position of IoT networks. Archived data about device operating systems through the system enables proper forensic examination and security breach investigation. A thoughtful assessment of the implementation proves the security solution’s ability to prevent unauthorized entry points and keep systems safe. The presented framework adds important knowledge to IoT security studies by establishing an operational approach to safeguarding various IoT networks efficiently. Test results from this prototype become the basis to advance secure IoT design principles which maintain effective protection of IoT systems.
