Bio-based antimicrobial coatings for safer hospitals and public spaces
Bio-based antimicrobial coatings for safer hospitals and public spaces Researchers at Reactive Surfaces have created a modular, bio-based coating additive that delivers continuous antimicrobial protection, prevents surface-driven antibiotic resistance transfer, and enables reduced-biocide paint preservation. The modular, bio-based additive coatings platform combines (i) short antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) engineered from a tunable sequence library and (ii) selected enzymes (e.g., lipases and nucleases) whose catalytic activity can be retained after incorporation into common waterborne coating binders.
