EFFECTS OF JOINT CAPACITY BUILDING ON SERVICE DELIVERY IN THE DADAAB REFUGEE COMPLEX, KENYA

A prolonged refugee imposes a long-term institutional as well as human resource capacity to facilitate the delivery of effective services. Joint capacity-building efforts by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and government agencies are currently being employed in the Dadaab refugee complex in efforts to enhance coordination, skills, and the performance of institutions. In this article, the researcher will determine how capacity building has influenced service delivery in Dadaab. A mixed-methods case study design allowed gathering as much quantitative data as possible through 72 respondents, and then analyzing it with correlation and regression methods, with the addition of qualitative information. The results indicate that capacity building affects service delivery in a positive and statistically significant manner, especially in enhancing the competence of staff, coordination, and responsiveness. Nonetheless, it affects this moderately depending on the availability of resources and logistical infrastructure. The paper comes up with the conclusion that capacity building is not the solution to all the problems in service delivery, but it is a very important facilitator of sustainable humanitarian performance when combined with other working systems.
