Management of Recurrent Tinea Cruris (Duṣīviṣa-janya Dadru) Using Ayurvedic Herbo-Mineral Antitoxic Preparations: A Case Report

Background: Tinea cruris, correlated with Duṣīviṣa-janya Dadru in Ayurveda, is a common superficial fungal infection characterized by chronicity and recurrence. It poses a significant dermatological challenge due to frequent relapses and incomplete resolution with conventional therapy. Case Presentation: A 38-year-old female presented with pruritic erythematous lesions, dryness, and hyperpigmentation over the groin region for 5–6 years. Clinical examination and KOH mount confirmed the diagnosis of Tinea cruris. From an Ayurvedic perspective, the condition was assessed as Duṣīviṣa-janya Dadru involving vitiation of Doṣa and accumulation of latent toxins. Intervention and Outcome: The patient was managed with Ayurvedic herbo-mineral antitoxic formulations, including Gandhaka Rasāyana and Duṣīviṣāri Agada internally, along with external applications of Vidanga, Nimba, and Ṭaṅkaṇa. Significant reduction in erythema and lesion size was observed with no recurrence during follow-up. Conclusion: This case highlights the potential of Ayurvedic herbo-mineral therapy in managing recurrent Tinea cruris by addressing underlying systemic imbalances and promoting sustained clinical remission.
