Fluorene‐based blue emitters: On the path to electrically pumped organic lasers

Abstract Laser technology has become ubiquitous, yet inorganic lasers remain constrained by complex manufacturing processes requiring high temperature and high vacuum, as well as by high costs. Consequently, greater attention is being directed toward organic lasers, with the research focus shifting from cavity design to electrically pumped lasers. Despite extensive global efforts, the realization of efficient organic electrically pumped lasers remains a central challenge in optoelectronics. In the search for viable gain media, fluorene‐based blue luminescent semiconductor materials have emerged as particularly promising candidates, owing to their structural versatility and favorable spectral properties. This article reviews recent advances in such materials, highlighting their reliability and versatility in laser applications. The current challenges and prospective research directions of fluorene‐based gain media are also discussed. Ultimately, this work aims to provide researchers in optoelectronic materials with a clear perspective and inspiration to advance technological progress in this complex field.
