Sim-SPR: An Open-Source Simulator for Study and Analysis of Plasmonic Structures Prism-Based Sensors

In this paper, we propose an extension of an open-source simulator available in the literature called Sim-SPR. Sim-SPR aims to assist in the study, analysis, and design of sensor devices based on the surface plasmon resonance effect. This tool provides results such as resonance curve and sensitivity for sensor structures based on optical coupling via prism. The Sim-SPR extension involves its restructuring for the Python language, including wavelength interrogation mode, as well as its integration into a user-friendly and intuitive graphical interface. The validation of Sim-SPR was performed through the analysis and comparison of the resonance curve and sensitivity parameters considering four scenarios available in the literature, comprising the Otto and Kretschman configurations. The results confirm that Sim-SPR is a relevant and promising platform in the context of the study, analysis, and design of optical sensors with prism coupling, under angular and wavelength interrogation modes, considering Otto and Kretschman configurations.
