Enhancing Stability of Few‐Layer Black Phosphorus (FLBP) Through Nitrocellulose Coating: A Robust Defense Mechanism Against Degradation

ABSTRACT Phosphorene is a 2D layered material characterized by exceptional properties that open new opportunities for electronic applications. However, its usage is limited due to the rapidly progressing degradation process under ambient conditions. In this study, we present a simple and scalable strategy for few‐layer black phosphorus (FLBP) protection with a cellulose nitrate‐based coating. The FLBP is structurally and morphologically characterized by Raman spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy and Atomic Force Microscopy. The FLBP stability with and without nitrocellulose‐based protection is evaluated using optical interferometry, surface profilometry, and electrical conductivity measurements under ambient conditions. The results demonstrate that the nitrocellulose coating effectively preserves the optical and electrical properties of FLBP films over time, highlighting its potential for practical device‐oriented applications.
