Industrial Control Panels for PLC-Based Automation Systems: (Focus: Introduction)
Control panels are traditionally described as physical enclosures housing electrical and automation components. However, modern industrial automation requires a mathematically rigorous, fault-aware, safety-constrained, diagnosable, andimplementable representation. This paper develops a complete 2026-level formal model of a control panel as a hybrid, uncertain, fault-inclusive, optimally governed, real-time, modular system. We begin with classical PLC concepts (Overview of PLCs) and progressively refine them into a structurallyirreducible mathematical object. The final representation in tegrates dynamics, switching, uncertainty, faults, safety sets, optimal control, sensing, diagnosis, hardware constraints, timing semantics, and modular composition. This yields a system-ofsystems model suitable for digital twins, verification, governance, and regulator-grade engineering. Index Terms PLC, control panel, hybrid systems, safety, optimal control, diagnosability, real-time systems, industrial automation.
