Transferring the emergence profile using intraoral scanners: A provisional-guided technique

The management of the interim restoration plays a pivotal role in vertical edgeless tooth preparation by ensuring proper marginal adaptation, enhancing soft tissue stability and optimizing the emergence profile. Gingival architecture preservation relies on the precise transfer of the emergence profile developed by the interim crown to the definitive restoration. Achieving accurate transfer of the intricacies of conditioned soft tissue to the dental laboratory technician poses a notable challenge. A modified intraoral scanning workflow was implemented to acquire the interim restoration scan, which was subsequently aligned with the other digital datasets. The workflow enabled consistent acquisition of the interim restoration scan and improved the digital transfer of the conditioned emergence profile to the dental laboratory. This approach provides a reliable and clinically applicable protocol for reproducing soft tissue architecture in the definitive restoration within a fully digital workflow. This technique supports the maintenance of gingival architecture and promotes optimal fit of the final restoration, offering functional and periodontal advantages in prosthodontics.
