Applying the 7A model to design AI enabled children’s tourism experiences in Tehran

This study aims to examine how to enhance child-centered tourism experiences in smart cities through artificial intelligence technologies, based on the conceptual 7A model. The research employed a qualitative method with a deductive–inductive thematic analysis approach. Participants included 18 Tehran-based families with children aged 10 to 15. Data were collected from four sources semi-structured family interviews, participatory observation, children’s creative outputs, and an analytical checklist and analyzed through data triangulation. The data reveals that the two salient and consistent dimensions of the proposed 7A framework entailed by the study are Aspiration (encouraging curiosity) and Autonomy (autonomous selection), and these dimensions also have the highest salience and show the greatest prominence when interacting with devices and tools like augmented reality and the recommender system. Remaining dimensions like Assurance (safety and trustworthy) and Adaptability have a very crucial and defining element regarding the relationship between the parent and the child. This study introduces a new validated model, namely the 7A model, to design a child-friendly experience with AI technology. Based on learning theories, evidence shows that tourism with AI technology is capable of providing personalized tourism, learning motivations, and social interaction if accessibility and trustworthiness are the main concerns. This study opens a window for designing smart tourism in Tehran.
