A High-Accuracy Radial Basis Function Pseudo-Spectral Simulation of Heat Transfer in Multilayer Biological Tissues During Liver Cancer Radiofrequency Ablation

The paper develops a Houbolt-enhanced radial basis function pseudo-spectral method (RBF-PS) to simulate the thermal effects of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in liver cancer treatment under both high-power short-duration and low-power long-duration conditions. As a global radial basis function collocation method (RBFCM), RBF-PS eliminates the need for meshing and numerical integration, making it highly efficient for simulating complex multilayer biological structures and providing superior accuracy in modeling fine tissues such as capillaries and epidermis. To ensure real-time monitoring during the procedure, the third-order Houbolt method is employed to discretize the temperature gradient over time, enhancing the convergence of this simulation. After verifying the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed method, we provide different simulations of the thermal effects of RFA of 3D tumor. The method also supports thermal distribution analysis, assisting physicians in evaluating the thermal effects and determining appropriate ablation duration.
