Situations of Contact of Religious Traditions in Early Modern Europe (1453–1789)
The research report presents results of research conducted in the Käte Hamburger Kolleg (KHK) ‘Dynamics in the History of Religions between Asia and Europe’ (CERES, Ruhr-University Bochum 2008–2022) on situations of contact of religious traditions in early modern Europe by means of a survey of publications written by former fellows, colleagues and collaborators of the KHK. Apart from systematic findings, particularly the salience of inter-religious contacts, the presence and role of the veiled or hidden third in situations of contact and the role of model forms seem to be important elements for theorizing. The article lists some further areas of research that may be fertile areas for a contact-based future early European history of religion.
