Draft Whole-Genome Sequence of Salmonella Enteritidis-Specific Phage vB_SalC_KFSSE1 Isolated from Chicken Intestine

Salmonella enterica subsp.enterica serovar Enteritidis (S.Enteritidis) is one of the most prevalent serovars causing human salmonellosis worldwide [1,2].Lytic bacteriophages (phages) targeting S. Enteritidis have gained increasing attention as alternative biocontrol agents due to their host specificity, bactericidal effect, and safety [3].KFSSE1 is a lytic phage previously isolated from chicken intestine, and its host range, environmental stability, and genomic features were characterized previously [4].However, recent phage taxonomy and classification criteria established by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) have high-A bacteriophage infecting Salmonella Enteritidis, KFSSE1, was previously isolated from chicken intestine. In this study, the genome of KFSSE1 was reanalyzed, and new transmission electron microscopy (TEM) data were incorporated to update its taxonomic classification according to the latest International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses guidelines. Its genome consisted of 59,715 bp double-stranded DNA with a GC content of 56.71, encoding 74 protein-coding sequences.TEM observation revealed a siphovirus-like morphology.Phylogenomic and average nucleotide identity analyses demonstrated that KFSSE1 belongs to the genus Chivirus within the family Casjensviridae. The genome sequence has been deposited in Gen-Bank under accession number MG280946.1.
