Library resources recommender application (LiRRA) for library resources acquisition and educational improvement

The Library Resources Recommender Application (LiRRA) is an innovative software solution designed to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of library resource acquisition in higher education institutions. Created to address the limitations of traditional procurement processes, LiRRA allows faculty to conveniently recommend books, e-books, multimedia, magazines, and other instructional materials using their mobile devices. This strengthens faculty involvement in shaping library collections and supports compliance with CHED Memorandum Order No. 22, series of 2021, which mandates collaborative resource selection between librarians and faculty. However, many libraries still depend on paper-based recommendation methods, leading to incomplete data, low-quality submissions, and delays in acquisition. LiRRA overcomes these challenges by digitizing the entire recommendation workflow. Faculty submissions are consolidated into a server-based web application that generates automated textual and graphical reports, ranking resources from most to least recommended. This provides librarians with clear, data-driven insights to guide procurement decisions. The system features a mobile interface for faculty and a web interface for librarians, improving data accuracy, transparency, and efficiency while reducing manual workload. Currently in active development, LiRRA has completed its prototype, system architecture, and recommendation engine, with ongoing data integration and testing to refine accuracy. The application shows strong potential to modernize library operations, support curriculum alignment, and enhance educational quality by offering a more transparent and evidence-based approach to resource selection. Lastly, LiRRA aims to strengthen library services, promote informed academic decision-making, and contribute to future innovations in scholarly and educational resource management.
