Ghost imaging for a rough target embedded in the rough background

In the imaging scene in which the target is embedded in the background, the additional echo signal from the background needs to be considered when the light source illuminates the target, leading to noise disturbance for the target imaging. In this paper, ghost imaging for a rough target surrounded by a rough background is experimentally investigated, and the imaging quality is largely deteriorated by the background disturbance, and even the reconstruction fails. To address the issue, a selection method for detected signals depending on the scaling factor is proposed to improve the imaging quality based on the roughness-induced signal difference between the target and background, and the optimal range of the scaling factor is found by varying the roughness of the target and background. The theory of the proposed method is derived, and its validity is experimentally confirmed. The comparison between the proposed method and the polarized ghost imaging scheme is given, and our proposed method consistently demonstrates superior imaging performance. The results can find potential applications in complex imaging scenes such as air-to-ground imaging.
