The shapes and dynamics of floating droplets under the action of spatial modulation of the vertical component of the temperature gradient

The shapes and dynamics of a floating droplet under the action of an inclined temperature gradient in the presence of the spatial modulation of the transverse component of the temperature gradient are investigated. The case when the vertical component of the temperature gradient is directed downward is considered. The problem is studied in the framework of the slender droplet approximation and the precursor model. Numerical simulations of nonlinear flow regimes have been fulfilled. It is shown that spatial modulation of the substrate temperature is accompanied by the change of the droplet shape and periodic oscillations of the droplet. The period of oscillations coincides with the time of passing the spatial period of modulation by the droplet.
