Design and Implementation of a Solar-Powered Decorative Lighting System Using Arduino and RGB LEDs

The growing c o n c e r n s for energy and environmental issues related to fossil fuel-based power production have accelerated the requirement for sustainable and renewable energy sources. Solar energy has been identified as one of the most promising alternatives for small-scale power requirements because of its abundance, purity, and low operating costs. This paper describes the design and development of a solar-powered decorative lighting system using photovoltaic cells, lithium-ion batteries, and an Arduino controller. The system is designed to function independently, harnessing solar energy during the daytime and providing decorative lighting during the nighttime using energy-efficient RGB LEDs. The system also incorporates an LDR sensor to provide automatic dusk-to-dawn functionality, ensuring optimal energy use without human intervention. The experimental outcome shows that the proposed system is able to provide stable and continuous lighting for up to two hours using harvested solar energy, with low power consumption and high aesthetic value. The proposed system provides a cost-effective, eco-friendly, and scalable solution for outdoor decorative lighting in gardens, parks, pathways, and public spaces.
