A Comprehensive Survey on Security Mechanisms for Internet of Medical Things (IoMT)

The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) is playing a pivotal role in the transformation of health service facilities to deliver real-time data for remote monitoring and patient diagnostics. IoMT is removing the barriers between patients and health monitoring service providers. Remote health sensors provide continuous and desired data to health facilities, resulting in proper patient monitoring without requiring frequent hospital visits. This also makes it possible to avoid or handle emergency circumstances and handle them through prompt and timely response. On one side IoMT usage is quickly expanding due to its benefits but on the other hand, it is posing critical data security and privacy concerns specifically during transmission and in storage. The main aim of this study is to identify security vulnerabilities and determine the best methods for addressing security and privacy concerns in IoMT. Moreover, we have categorized the security problems, and have done an in-depth analysis of current solutions, attack types, and challenges. This study also examines contemporary noncryptographic and cryptographic strategies for lightweight security mechanisms in IoMT.
