Mesentery‐Preserving Hand‐Sewn Anastomosis for Rectal Endometriosis: A Nerve‐Sparing Laparoscopic Technique
OBJECTIVE: To describe a mesentery-preserving, nerve-sparing laparoscopic technique for rectal endometriosis. DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study. SETTING: Single centre. POPULATION OR SAMPLE: Women requiring bowel resection for rectal endometriosis. METHODS: Full-thickness anterior lesion excision and mesorectum-preserving limited posterior resection with hand-sewn anastomosis, compared with conventional stapled resection. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Anastomotic integrity and 12-month functional outcomes. RESULTS: The technique safely preserves neurovascular structures. Initial proof-of-concept data confirm surgical feasibility. CONCLUSIONS: This approach is feasible and hypothesis-generating, supporting future prospective trials.
