Three Realms of Matter: A Conceptual Expansion Beyond the Binary Model of Change
This work proposes a conceptual refinement to the traditional classification of matter transformation, which is commonly divided into physical and chemical changes. While scientifically valid, the binary model groups together distinct observable phenomena under a single category of “physical change,” potentially obscuring meaningful differences in how matter responds to varying levels of energy. This paper introduces a three-mode framework of transformation: • Transformation of state — phase changes in which molecular identity remains intact • Transformation of form — structural reconfiguration under heat and pressure without molecular disintegration • Transformation of identity — extreme energetic conditions in which matter ionizes into charged particles The framework aligns with observable natural domains, including surface processes, geological transformations, and high-energy atmospheric phenomena. Rather than contradicting existing scientific principles, this model refines them by separating grouped phenomena into distinct experiential categories, offering a more intuitive understanding of matter across energy scales. Three realms- Transformation of state, Transformation of form, Transformation of identity- all governed by energy.
