Proxy Drift: When Process Transparency Fails to Guarantee Artifact Integrity in AI-Mediated Research Systems
This paper explains why seeing how an AI “thinks” does not mean its results are correct. Even if the reasoning looks clear, the equations, tables, or figures it produces can still be wrong. The paper argues that future AI research tools need built-in checks to verify their outputs, not just show their reasoning.
