Prostatic ectopic ureterocele with a focal urethral anomaly and ectopic right kidney in a dog
Abstract A 1 year, 2‐month‐old, male entire Border Collie presented for investigations of progressing urinary incontinence. Computed tomography (CT), focal abdominal ultrasound and positive‐contrast retrograde urethrography were performed. CT identified a right‐sided extramural, prostatic ectopic ureter with formation of a ureterocele, and with right renal atrophy. The retrograde urethrogram showed the urethra had a smooth outline with symmetrical dilation at the level of the prostatic urethra, suspected to be a urethral anomaly. Surgery was performed to remove the ectopic ureter and the affected kidney, in addition to reconstructing the urethra to a normal diameter. Histopathological examination confirmed a ureterocele and dysplastic right kidney. The urinary incontinence nearly resolved following surgery, supporting the clinical significance of the ectopic ureterocele and/or the urethral anomaly for the urinary incontinence.
