Synergistic Enhancement of Tribological Performance in Epoxy Coatings With <scp> Al 2 O 3 /Polytetrafluoroethylene </scp> Hybrid Fillers

ABSTRACT To address the tribological challenges in transmission systems, a novel epoxy (EP) composite coating has been developed. The key to its design lies in combining soft and hard fillers to achieve a synergistic effect. The influence of Al 2 O 3 and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), both individually and in combination, on mechanical and tribological performance was studied. In contrast to the strengthening role of Al 2 O 3 and the softening effect of PTFE, their combination in the hybrid filler coating yielded superior performance, substantially lowering the frictional coefficient (by 81.5%) and the wear rate (by 99.5%) in comparison with pure EP. This significant improvement stems from a dual synergy of mechanical property complementarity and enhanced interfacial stability, providing a theoretical framework for designing advanced self‐lubricating coatings.
