Inequalities for the Lambert series
Abstract The classical Lambert series is given by $$ L(x)= \sum _{\nu =1}^\infty \frac{x^{\nu }}{1-x^{\nu }}, \quad |x|<1. $$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>L</mml:mi> <mml:mrow> <mml:mo>(</mml:mo> <mml:mi>x</mml:mi> <mml:mo>)</mml:mo> </mml:mrow> <mml:mo>=</mml:mo> <mml:munderover> <mml:mo>∑</mml:mo> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>ν</mml:mi> <mml:mo>=</mml:mo> <mml:mn>1</mml:mn> </mml:mrow> <mml:mi>∞</mml:mi> </mml:munderover> <mml:mfrac> <mml:msup> <mml:mi>x</mml:mi> <mml:mi>ν</mml:mi> </mml:msup> <mml:mrow> <mml:mn>1</mml:mn> <mml:mo>-</mml:mo> <mml:msup> <mml:mi>x</mml:mi> <mml:mi>ν</mml:mi> </mml:msup> </mml:mrow> </mml:mfrac> <mml:mo>,</mml:mo> <mml:mspace/> <mml:mrow> <mml:mo>|</mml:mo> <mml:mi>x</mml:mi> <mml:mo>|</mml:mo> </mml:mrow> <mml:mo><</mml:mo> <mml:mn>1</mml:mn> <mml:mo>.</mml:mo> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> We prove that the function $$t\mapsto L(1-e^{-t})$$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>t</mml:mi> <mml:mo>↦</mml:mo> <mml:mi>L</mml:mi> <mml:mo>(</mml:mo> <mml:mn>1</mml:mn> <mml:mo>-</mml:mo> <mml:msup> <mml:mi>e</mml:mi> <mml:mrow> <mml:mo>-</mml:mo> <mml:mi>t</mml:mi> </mml:mrow> </mml:msup> <mml:mo>)</mml:mo> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> is strictly convex and strictly log-concave on $$[0,\infty )$$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mo>[</mml:mo> <mml:mn>0</mml:mn> <mml:mo>,</mml:mo> <mml:mi>∞</mml:mi> <mml:mo>)</mml:mo> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> .
