Fully Resolvable Multipath Reception for Cyclic Interleaved System

ABSTRACT Multipath fading severely limits multiple access system performance, with residual interference persisting even when cyclic interleaving has been employed. The semiorthogonal nature of maximum length (ML) sequences allows scattered multipath components to interfere, making system performance highly dependent on the cyclic and orthogonal characteristics of the sequence. This paper addresses this fundamental limitation through a novel cyclic interleaving architecture based on Zadoff–Chu (ZC) sequences. Exploiting the ZC sequence's perfect cyclic orthogonality, the proposed system eliminates residual interference using only a simple matched filter bank (MFB) receiver—avoiding the decorrelation stage required by ML‐based systems. Simulation results demonstrate substantial bit error rate (BER) improvements and enhanced diversity gain compared to conventional ML approaches across diverse Ricean fading conditions. The ZC‐based architecture thus provides a practical, low‐complexity solution for frequency‐selective fading channels where ML sequences fall short.
