IR-spectrophotometric identification and quantification of nitrofurazone
Nitrofurazone is a synthetic semicarbazone from the nitrofuran class and exhibits activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The aim of the current study includes the development and validation of a highly sensitive, fast, easy-to-perform, and non-destructive IR spectrophotometric method for the identification and quantification of nitrofurazone with respect to the analytical parameters of specificity, linearity, detection limit, quantitation limit, accuracy, and precision. Results show that at 1580 cm -1 and at 1707 cm -1 , a linear relationship between absorbance and concentration was proven in the concentration ranges: 160 mg/1 g ÷ 240 mg/1 g, with correlation coefficients close to 1. The accuracy is better at 1580 cm -1 (RSD < 0.9%) than at 1707 cm -1 (RSD < 2.34%). Higher repeatability was obtained at 1580 cm -1 (RSD < 2.75%) than at 1707 cm -1 (RSD < 3.85%). At 1580 cm -1 LOD = 12.32 mg/1 g; LOQ = 41.07 mg/1 g; at 1707 cm 1 : LOD = 14.79 mg/1 g; LOQ = 49.31 mg/1 g.
