Acute Macular Neuroretinopathy in a 27-year-old male patient following impending central retinal vein occlusion
PURPOSE: The purpose of this report is to describe an uncommon case of vision loss in a 27-year-old male patient that presented with impending central retinal vein occlusion followed by Acute Macular Neuroretinopathy (AMN). METHODS: A case report of a 27-year-old male patient presented with vision loss following impending CRVO and secondary deterioration in visual acuity due to AMN. The case was alanyzed to understand the differential diagnosis of the OCT findings and to explain the pathophysiology of the visual loss in this patient. Medical history ,laboratory examinations and frequent imaging were performed to monitor the progress of the disorder. RESULTS: The patient was diagnosed with acute Middle Maculopathy associated eith venous stasis or impending CRVO. Long term follow-up revealed improvement of the visual acuity and visual field defects although full recovery was not achieved. CONCLUSION: Although CRVO is more commonly associated with Paracentral Acute Middle Maculopathy (PAMM), there are cases in which CRVO is associated with AMN, even then they are less frequent.
