Assessment of damper performance in a G+10 RC framed structure subjected to lateral loading

The present study investigates the effect of dampers on a (G+10) storey building subjected to seismic and wind load, along with gravity load. This type of structure or building is more vulnerable to vibrations, leading to excessive storey displacement, storey drift, and so on. Four different mod-els were modeled in the ETAB software. Further seismic and wind loads are assigned, along with the gravity load. Then these models were analyzed by Response spectrum method. A comparative evaluation was conducted fo-cusing on key response parameters, including storey displacement, storey drift, and overall lateral stability. After analysis, the results show a con-sistent and measurable improvement in structural behaviour with the incor-poration of a damping system compared to a bare frame. Among the evalu-ated systems, the friction damper showed more effective performance sub-jected to both seismic and wind loads compared to other dampers. The fric-tion dampers model exhibited the most significant reduction in lateral dis-placement and storey drifts, thereby enhancing global stiffness and energy dissipation capacity.
