Precision Under Pressure: Scalp Block and Dexmedetomidine for Brain Abscess Drainage in a Patient With Complex Cyanotic Heart Disease
Cyanotic heart disease is a known risk factor for brain abscess. Anesthesia for burr-hole drainage in these patients can be challenging due to complications like an increase in right-to-left shunt, arrhythmias, heart failure, and paradoxical air embolism. The risk of these complications can be decreased by choosing a scalp block with conscious sedation.
