Room Temperature Single‐Photon Emission From Quantum Emitters Coupled to a Partially Coherent Metasurface

ABSTRACT Photonic metasurfaces provide the device miniaturization and multi‐functionality to the generation, detection, and manipulation of light. Here, we have explored a novel on‐chip single‐photon source platform of the resonantly coupled system of the solid‐state quantum emitters and the guided mode‐resonant metasurface at room temperature. The coupled system provides the coexistence of a Purcell‐enhanced, ultranarrow resonant mode, which is only of the uncoupled emission mode's linewidth, and the single‐photon emission outcoupling with improved emission count rate stability with time, which has only fluctuation around its mean value. The excitation and detection beam areas emerge as the key parameters to control the resonant light–matter interaction in the coupled system. The parameter is connected to the coherent nature of the metasurface scattering, driven by the nonlocality of the in‐plane scattering fields. This work presents a viable integrated platform of an on‐chip device with a precise tuning parameter for resonant single‐photon generation, manipulation, filtering, and novel quantum applications, e.g., computation and communication.
