Developing a subject/research guide for academic libraries: a case of IIT Ropar Library

Purpose This case study aims to explain how a library at a higher education institution developed a subject/research guide using the SubjectPlus tool to enhance library usage. It also provides the academic disciplines for which subject/research guides have been created. Design/methodology/approach This paper uses the case study approach to analyse how the SubjectPlus tool is used to develop subject/research guides. The study evaluates past practices for finding resources and how the utilisation of modern tool changed the user experience. Findings The Library of IIT Ropar developed the subject/research guides powered by SubjectPlus, which is now successfully deployed. This tool is identified as one of the most beneficial for academicians and researchers, providing on- and off-campus access. Users can access subject- and topic-specific print and online resources via the A-Z list or subject-wise, and enjoy many other features. Originality/value This paper assists library professionals in understanding the development of subject/research guides and how users at higher education institutions effectively use library resources. With the help of the SubjectPlus tool, users can have access to key information resources related to a particular academic subject or field of study.
