Much of genetic risk for SUDs shared with ADHD, other disorders

Research that takes a multivariate approach to examining the genetic influences on substance use disorders (SUDs) could ultimately help to identify a much broader population at risk of developing an addiction. A newly published analysis has found that genetic risk for SUDs shares pathways in common with other disorders marked by behavioral disinhibition, including attention‐deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and conduct disorder.

Abstract

Research that takes a multivariate approach to examining the genetic influences on substance use disorders (SUDs) could ultimately help to identify a much broader population at risk of developing an addiction. A newly published analysis has found that genetic risk for SUDs shares pathways in common with other disorders marked by behavioral disinhibition, including attention‐deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and conduct disorder.
