First Results of <scp>SOLPS</scp> ‐ <scp>ITER</scp> Wide Grid <scp>ITER</scp> Modeling With Drifts

ABSTRACT First modeling results by SOLPS‐ITER wide grid (3.2.0) version with inclusion of drift effects for ITER are obtained. Modeling was made up to the main chamber wall for two different scenarios: start of research operation (SRO) , , , and full burning plasma (FBP) , , . The impact of drifts was investigated. For the SRO cases, the strongest influence of drifts was observed in the attached regime, with their contribution decreasing during the transition to pronounced detachment. High drift‐driven fluxes between the targets in the private flux region lead to increased divertor asymmetry. For the FBP case, the inclusion of drifts also enhances divertor asymmetry. Drifts alter the stagnation point of the particle flux in the near SOL but do not influence the far SOL. Furthermore, drifts do not significantly change the plasma parameters at the main chamber wall.
