The Effect of a Nurse‐Led Low‐Carbohydrate Regimen on Symptoms and Eating Triggers of Patients With Metabolic Syndrome: A Quasi‐Experimental Study
Background and Aim: This quasi-experimental study aimed to determine how a nurse-led low-carbohydrate regimen impacts the symptoms and eating triggers experienced by patients with metabolic syndrome. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study. This study recruited 128 participants with metabolic syndrome and assigned them to either an intervention group, which received personalized low-carb diet support, or a control group, which received standard dietary recommendations. Participants completed questionnaires assessing their symptoms and food triggers before and after the intervention. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 27. Results: The prevalence of metabolic syndrome signs was the same in both groups (39.1% vs. 34.4%) before the intervention. After the intervention, a significant reduction in the overall prevalence of these signs and symptoms was observed in the intervention group (12.5%) compared to the control group (43.8%). Furthermore, baseline eating trigger scores showed no significant differences between the groups. Postintervention, the intervention group demonstrated a significant decrease in the total eating trigger score and all subscale scores compared to the control group. Conclusion: Iranian Clinical Trials Registry (IRCT20231002059587N1).
