Comparison of Fourier transform-based and statistically optimized nearfield acoustical holography in terms of their applicability to active structural acoustic control

To observe acoustic sound power during active structural acoustic control, this study compares two algorithms from planar nearfield acoustical holography. The methods address the inverse problem of reconstructing sound field quantities in a source plane by analyzing pressures in a holographic plane, which then allows deduction of sound power. The algorithms examined—Fourier transform-based and statistically optimized nearfield acoustical holography—are derived using DFT matrices and applied to an acoustic line source model, revealing scenarios of equivalence. The suitability of holography as a sensor concept for active acoustic control is also considered.

Abstract

To observe acoustic sound power during active structural acoustic control, this study compares two algorithms from planar nearfield acoustical holography. The methods address the inverse problem of reconstructing sound field quantities in a source plane by analyzing pressures in a holographic plane, which then allows deduction of sound power. The algorithms examined—Fourier transform-based and statistically optimized nearfield acoustical holography—are derived using DFT matrices and applied to an acoustic line source model, revealing scenarios of equivalence. The suitability of holography as a sensor concept for active acoustic control is also considered.
