Strategic Supply Chain Leadership in the Era of Economic Security and Trade Realignment
Global supply chains are undergoing profound transformation due to rising geopolitical tensions, economic nationalism, trade realignments, and increased emphasis on national and economic security. Traditional supply chain management approaches, which prioritized efficiency and cost minimization, are increasingly insufficient in addressing systemic risks such as trade disruptions, sanctions, resource dependency, and geopolitical uncertainty. This paper explores the evolving role of strategic supply chain leadership in navigating the era of economic security and trade realignment. It proposes a leadership driven framework that integrates resilience, diversification, policy alignment, and strategic risk governance into supply chain decision making. By synthesizing existing literature and strategic management principles, the study highlights how supply chain leaders can balance competitiveness with security imperatives. The findings emphasize that proactive leadership, cross border coordination, and adaptive governance are critical for sustaining supply chain performance in a fragmented global trade environment.
