THE IMPACT OF INTERNAL HEAT LOAD VARIATION ON ANNUAL AND PEAK THERMAL LOAD

This paper developed a method to determine annual thermal loads using simulations that account for internal heat generation variability by employing random variables following a standard normal distribution. Annual thermal loads were calculated, then sorted in descending order to identify critical days. Internal heat generation design conditions were embedded on these critical days, followed by renewed annual thermal load simulations to determine peak thermal loads. Simulation results are reported, including comparisons of thermal load descending and ascending order plots and annual cumulative thermal load comparisons.

Abstract

This paper developed a method to determine annual thermal loads using simulations that account for internal heat generation variability by employing random variables following a standard normal distribution. Annual thermal loads were calculated, then sorted in descending order to identify critical days. Internal heat generation design conditions were embedded on these critical days, followed by renewed annual thermal load simulations to determine peak thermal loads. Simulation results are reported, including comparisons of thermal load descending and ascending order plots and annual cumulative thermal load comparisons.
