Genetic parameters and correlation analysis of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench) cultivars grown in two soil textures

The experiment was conducted at the Research Station of the Department of Horticulture and Landscape / College of Agriculture / Tikrit University, to estimate the genetic parameters and correlation in six okra cultivars namely: Clamson, Husseiniya, Sultani, Batrah, Clemson and Clemson Spineless, under two types of soil texture: loam and silty loam. The experiment carried out according to Randomized Complete Block Design (R.C.B.D), with split plot arrangement, with four replications. Soil texture was in the main plots, while the varieties were the sub plots. The results showed were highly significant differences in the analysis of variance. The genetic traits also showed differences in genetic, phenotypic and environmental variations. Broad sense heritability was high in pods number and plant yield, and the traits showed moderate heritability in Plant height, branches number on the main stem, Pod diameter, whereas it decreased in other characteristics. The expected genetic advance is an increase in branches number on the main stem , pods number per plant and plant yield. Phenotypic Correlation analysis cleared that there was a highly significant positive correlation between the number of branches on the main stem and the total number of branches on the plant, the number of pods and the plant yield, the pod weight with the pods number and the plant yield, and the plant yield with the number of pods. Stem diameter was significantly positively correlated with the total branches number, pod diameter with the number of pods, and pod yield with pod diameter.
