Researchers' Well‐Being Through My Academic Career in Japan, Germany and USA

Abstract Upon development of my academic career in Japan, Germany, and USA, I have increasingly recognized the importance of researchers' well‐being. While the research lifestyles in these three countries were distinct, it has been essential for me to maintain good well‐being for the sustainable development of my academic career. One may need to work intensely during critical times, but it is also important to adjust the academic lifestyle pace depending on your career stages. Maintaining a good work‐life balance is essential for sustainable career development. I also discuss how to deal with negatives, such as uncontrollable situations and rejections; focusing on your controllables helps keep peace of mind. Enjoying science by making the best use of researchers' privilege of a flexible schedule and workload, while mitigating stress associated with competitive and hectic environments, is key to a long journey of career progression in the academic world.
