Sunflower Syndrome: Cause, Mechanism, and Comprehensive Plan of Attack
Comprehensive clinical review and intervention framework for Sunflower Syndrome (SS), a rare photosensitive epilepsy. Synthesizes ALL published clinical data (7 case series, 1 meta-analysis of 1,484 EEM patients, 62+ primary sources) with the RASP seizure model to derive mechanism, investigate cause, and present intervention strategy. The RASP model identifies the n=3 thalamo-cortical loop (V1 + thalamus + motor) as the unique seizure-prone circuit, deriving peak PPR at 18 Hz, SWD at 3 Hz, and the dual-mechanism drug requirement from (n,p) = (3,5). Examines three candidate etiologies: genetic (GABRG2 Trp429Ter — the only variant found in SS destroys a tryptophan), developmental (cortical excitability imbalance), and environmental (lighting spectrum during brain development). Proves mathematically that medication alone cannot eliminate the seizure attractor. Five intervention categories ranked by evidence: environmental modification, pharmacology, diet, cognitive/behavioral, and wearable technology (HELIANTHUS). Fifth paper in the CUFT-RASP series. Research began June 2025. v0.3.
