Mechanical responses of ER8 wheel steel during and after isothermal compression

The isothermal compression behavior of ER8 steel within the temperature range of 973 K ‐ 1373 K and the strain rate range of 0.001 s −1 ‐ 1 s −1 was investigated. The Arrhenius hyperbolic sine equation was constructed to describe isothermal compressive constitutive relationship. With an mean relative error of ‐0.85 %, the model demonstrates favorable predictive performance. Microstructure evolution behavior and the room temperature compressive mechanical response after isothermal compression followed by air cooling were analyzed. It shows that compressive yield strength increases as the isothermal compression temperature rises. In addition, a lower strain rate will produce a higher ferrite content and lead to a decrease in compressive yield strength. Research on the compressive mechanical response of ER8 steel would provide some reference significance for its secure utilization under heavy loads.
