Isoterm uppvärmning på en centrifug mikrofluidisk skiva : Rörelseinducerad induktionsuppvärmning i mikrofluidiska system
Isothermal heating is a critical requirement for nucleic acid amplificationtechniquessuchasLoop-MediatedIsothermalAmplification(LAMP),particularlyinpoint-of-carediagnosticapplications. Centrifugalmicrofluidicplatforms, commonlyreferred to as lab-on-a-disc systems, offer advantages including compact design, lowreagent consumption, and automated fluid handling. However, achieving stableand energy-efficient heating on a rotating disc remains a technical challenge. Thisbachelor’s thesis investigates the feasibility of Motion induced induction-basedheating for isothermal temperature control on a centrifugal microfluidic disc.Different configurations of permanent magnets, conductive plates, and rotationalspeeds were experimentally evaluated to study their effect on heat generationthrough eddy currents. The system was designed to operate using low-powercomponents suitable for portable and battery-driven applications. Temperaturemeasurements were performed under varying conditions, including differentmagnet strengths, conductive materials, air gaps, and rotational speeds rangingfrom 500 to 2500 rpm. The results demonstrate that induction-based heating cangenerate measurable and controllable temperature increases on conductive targetswithout direct electrical contact. The study highlights the influence of materialselection and geometric configuration on heating efficiency. The findings indicatethat induction heating is a promising alternative to conventional heating methodsfor lab-on-a-disK platforms, offering contactless operation, rapid response, andpotential forintegration into compact diagnostic systems.
