Reconsidering arctic resilience : community bonds and coping with change
This article explores the concept of resilience in the Arctic, focusing on the social dimensions of community bonds and coping mechanisms amidst rapid change. Using the relocation of Kiruna, Sweden, as a central case study, the authors argue that resilience is not merely a technical or economic capacity, but is deeply rooted in social cohesion and place attachment. In the context of the global green transition and the increasing demand for critical minerals, the article highlights how top-down geopolitical strategies must be balanced with bottom-up community perspectives to ensure sustainable and resilient Arctic futures.
