Nasolabial cysts: a rare encounter
Nasolabial cysts are rare, benign, non-odontogenic soft tissue lesions that occur in the nasolabial fold, accounting for around 0.7% of all maxillofacial cysts. They are often misdiagnosed and it is important to integrate clinical information with imaging to guide diagnosis and aid treatment planning. For general dental practitioners, awareness is essential as such lesions may mimic odontogenic pathology and present as swellings in the anterior maxillary region. The primary treatment of choice is surgical excision, although other methods have been described. This article presents a case of a unilateral nasolabial cyst in a 32-year-old woman, which was surgically excised. CPD/Clinical Relevance: Recognition of the clinical features of nasolabial cysts is essential for appropriate referral and management.
