SPECTRAL AND CYCLOTOMIC CONSTRAINTS ON ODD PERFECT NUMBERS

This paper develops a cyclotomic sieve to constrain the existence of Odd Perfect Numbers (OPNs) utilizing the identity $\sigma(q^{2f})=\prod_{d|2f+1}\Phi_{d}(q)$ and quadratic reciprocity for $\Phi_{3}$. By partitioning the non-special primes of a hypothetical OPN by their residue class modulo 3, the author systematically eliminates seven out of eight possible structural configurations. The paper proves that no OPN can exist under several specific conditions, including: having uniform exponents for all non-special primes, configurations where all non-special primes are $\equiv 2 \pmod 3$, cases where the exponent $e_{3} \ge 4$, or scenarios where 3 does not divide $N$. Additionally, the paper eliminates configurations involving specific special primes (such as $p=13$ and $p=5$) and early breaks in the cyclotomic prime chain. The methodology introduces several key innovations to achieve these eliminations, most notably a forced cascade originating from $\sigma(3^{2})=13$. This cascade determines a rigid "13-chain" of primes ($13 \rightarrow 61 \rightarrow 97 \rightarrow 3169 \rightarrow \dots$) that strictly limits the factor digraph. Combined with a break-point dichotomy and an $\alpha$-squeeze technique, the paper successfully reduces the OPN problem to a single, highly constrained open case characterized by a permanent $\sigma_{-1}$ budget deficit.
