“It was good that you came”: A patient perspective on prevention, fear, and supportive decision-making in basal cell carcinoma
This patient perspective reflects on the experience of being diagnosed and treated for basal cell carcinoma, highlighting the emotional impact of the word “cancer” even in medically favourable cases. It emphasizes the importance of public prevention messaging, sensitive communication at the moment of diagnosis, and supportive shared decision-making in dermatological care. The narrative illustrates how trust, reassurance, and clear guidance can significantly shape a patient’s ability to cope with fear and treatment choices.
