The Semantics and Collocability of the Noun "Announcement" in the 21st Century (Based on Data from the Russian National Corpus and Materials from Periodical Publications)
The object of the study is the semantics and syntactic properties of the word "anons" (‘announcement’) use in the 21st century, in comparison with data from the 19th–20th centuries, that is, the evolution of the semantics, collocability, and sphere of use of the word anons. The aim is to identify and describe semantic types of usage of the word and changes in its syntactic properties that are not reflected in major explanatory dictionaries. The borrowed word (a Gallicism) anons is at present fully assimilated into the Russian language, is in common use, and does not duplicate the semantics of other Russian words; that is, it possesses specific semantic components, which are identified and explicated in the study. Quantitative, distributional, componential, functional-semantic, and diachronic methods of analysis are employed. The novelty of the study lies in identifying changes in the syntactic properties of the word and in its semantics, as well as in identifying and describing semantic types of word usage that are not reflected in explanatory dictionaries. The following are new: 1) anons as the name of a section and as a genre of text in the mass media, including electronic media; 2) ‘a text placed on the front page of a printed publication or in a hyperlink of an electronic publication, as well as video fragments preceding the presentation of the main video material’; 3) ‘an official public event at which a producer informs about a new high-technology product and demonstrates its consumer properties’; 4) ‘an official announcement made by an authorized person in the financial or diplomatic sphere’. The original specialized (theatrical) meaning ‘an oral address to the audience from the stage after a performance’ is considered to be completely lost. Changes in the syntactic properties of the word anons have been identified: the construction with genitive government without a preposition (anons spektaklya) has almost completely displaced the construction with the preposition o and the instrumental case (anons o spektakle), which was dominant at the end of the 19th century.
