The growing challenge of hard-to-heal wounds in community nursing and its impact on holistic care

Community nurses’ workload is rising every year, as the number of people with wounds continues to increase. The number of qualified district nurses available to deliver increasingly complex wound care to people with multimorbidities is falling. As a result of these changes, there is a shift away from providing holistic care to delivering services in a task-based way. This article provides an overview of factors affecting wound care in the community and aims to enable community nurses to retain the ability to provide holistic care in a very challenging environment.
