EXPLORING THE CORRELATION BETWEEN SENSORY HYPERSENSITIVITY AND DIABETIC DISTRESS IN PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES A STUDY
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by insulin resistance and impaired glucose regulation. Among the multiple factors influencing its progression, psychological stress plays a significant, yet modifiable role. A systemic review found, consistent association between altered sensory processing patterns and higher diabetic stress levels. It reported that heightened sensory sensitivity corelates with emotional dysregulation. Sensory (hyper) sensitivity, explained by altered sensory processing and central sensitization, may act as a hidden factor that amplifies stress perception in daily diabetes routines. Identifying this relationship is essential to broaden understanding of patient variability in coping stress and adherence to treatment. Hence to explore the correlation between sensory hypersensitivity and diabetic distress in patients with Type 2 diabetes, this study is framed in GMC&H, Cuddalore district of Tamilnadu.
