Comparison of static navigation versus conventional freehand procedure in fiber post removal: A micro-CT analysis
Objectives: To compare dentine loss, microcrack formation, and procedural time between static navigation-assisted and conventional freehand fiber post removal techniques. Methods: Twelve extracted premolars with cemented fiber posts were divided into conventional freehand and static navigation-assisted groups. Pre- and post-operative micro-CT scans were used to assess dentine thickness loss, microcrack formation, and operative time. Statistical analysis included t-tests and Mann–Whitney tests. Results: The freehand group demonstrated significantly longer procedure time (28.96 ± 2.8 min), greater dentine loss (12.07 ± 4.3), and higher microcrack formation (2.1 ± 1.2) compared to the navigation group (p < 0.05). Static navigation showed superior dentine preservation and procedural efficiency. Conclusions: Static navigation-assisted fiber post removal offers a safer, faster, and more conservative alternative to conventional freehand techniques.
